Barcelona are closing in on the club’s first signing for the 2025/26 campaign, with highly-rated right-back Marc Pubill set to switch from Almería. The 21-year-old has been firmly on the Blaugrana’s radar, and after months of scouting and discussions, the club is now in the final stages of sealing the deal.
Barcelona had initially targeted Pubill last summer, but financial constraints prevented a move. Since then, the young full-back has continued his impressive rise, playing a key role in Spain’s Olympic triumph and showcasing his defensive prowess in La Liga. His performances have convinced the Catalan giants that he is the long-term answer to their right-back conundrum.
Sporting director Deco has been tasked with reinforcing the full-back positions, but Barça’s financial situation has forced the club to pursue cost-effective solutions. While high-profile names like Andrei Ratiu and Vanderson were considered, their hefty price tags proved to be stumbling blocks.
Pubill, however, represents a shrewd piece of business, with the transfer fee expected to fall between €15 and €20 million. Barcelona have struggled to find consistency at right-back in recent seasons, with Jules Koundé often filling in out of position and Héctor Fort yet to gain Hansi Flick’s full confidence. The arrival of Pubill is expected to provide much-needed defensive stability and increased competition for places.
Barcelona and Almería are now ironing out the final details, with personal terms already agreed. If all goes to plan, Pubill will don the famous Blaugrana jersey next season, adding depth and energy to the right flank. For now, the young defender remains focused on finishing the season strong with Almería, but all signs point to him joining the Camp Nou ranks this summer.
