‘Broken Promises’: Isak’s Standoff Puts Newcastle and Liverpool on Collision Course

Alexander Isak has dragged the summer’s biggest transfer saga into open view, accusing Newcastle United of “broken promises” as Liverpool circle.

Nineteen days after Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s £110m proposal, the Sweden forward posted an Instagram statement saying trust had gone and “the relationship can’t continue.” Newcastle publicly denied ever agreeing to a sale and insist their conditions have not been met.

Those conditions are twofold: recruit at least one, and ideally two, forwards, and receive a fee close to £150m. With Callum Wilson gone and targets slipping away, Eddie Howe’s squad is light up front.

Isak has been training away from the group while the club weighed bids for Benjamin Šeško and Hugo Ekitike; both moved elsewhere.

Yoane Wissa and Jørgen Strand Larsen remain on the list, but neither looks straightforward at this stage.

Liverpool are expected to test Newcastle’s resolve again if replacements land, with talk of an offer exceeding £120m. For now, it’s stalemate.

Howe says the door is open for reintegration, yet sections of the fanbase turned on Isak during the Villa draw, underlining the damage already done.

With the window closing on 1st September, either Newcastle pull off swift centre-forward deals or brace for a tense final week with their star striker in limbo. Either way, the saga now defines Liverpool’s final days strategy and stance.
