Shakib Al Hasan etched his name in T20 cricket history by becoming the first player to achieve the double of 500 wickets and 7000 runs during Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ seven-wicket win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
Playing at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the Bangladesh legend delivered a match-winning all-round performance. With the ball, Shakib registered figures of 3 for 11 in just two overs, reaching the 500-wicket landmark in style by dismissing Mohammad Rizwan.
His scalps also included Kyle Mayers and Naviann Bidaisee, derailing the Patriots’ hopes of a strong finish. Earlier, the Patriots struggled after a slow start and managed only 133 for 9, despite a brief fightback from Evin Lewis.
Chasing 134, the Falcons were off to a quick start thanks to Rakheem Cornwall and Jewel Andrew. After Cornwall’s early dismissal, Karima Gore held the innings together with an unbeaten 52 off 47 balls.
Shakib chipped in with a quickfire 25 off 18 deliveries, striking two sixes before falling stumped. Despite a few late chances, the Patriots failed to capitalize as dropped catches proved costly.
The victory keeps the Falcons on top of the CPL 2025 table, while Shakib’s historic feat cements his status as one of the greatest all-rounders in T20 history.
