The Indian government has confirmed that the national cricket team will participate in the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup in the UAE, ending speculation about a potential withdrawal due to political tensions with Pakistan. However, officials reiterated that there will be no resumption of bilateral cricket ties between the two countries.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the government clarified its stance: “Indian teams will not participate in bilateral competitions in Pakistan, nor will Pakistani teams be allowed to play in India. However, participation in international and multilateral tournaments that include Pakistan will continue in line with global sporting norms.”
The decision clears the path for the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash on September 14 in Dubai. The two teams could face each other up to three times during the tournament, depending on progression.
The statement also addressed logistical measures, confirming that visa procedures for players, officials, and technical staff will be simplified to facilitate international tournaments in India, reflecting the country’s ambition to host major global events in the coming years.
India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012, meeting only in ICC and ACC tournaments. This policy ensures the rivalry remains confined to multi-nation competitions while broader diplomatic issues remain unresolved.
