Liverpool have won the race to sign French striker Hugo Ekitike, agreeing to a £69 million fee with Eintracht Frankfurt and beating off stiff competition from Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old is set to sign a six-year contract and will complete his medical on Tuesday before joining the Reds’ Asia tour later this week.
Frankfurt will receive a further £10 million in performance-related add-ons, bringing the total value of the deal to £79 million.
Ekitike, who scored 15 goals and registered 8 assists in 31 Bundesliga starts in the 2024-25 season, had been on the radar of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle, whose £70m bid was recently rejected.
The former PSG prospect revived his career in Germany, emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s most complete forwards. His intelligence in attack and ability to lead the press made him a key target for Arne Slot as Liverpool looks to refresh their forward line.
Ekitike’s arrival takes Liverpool’s summer spending past £250 million, with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez also joining.
With Darwin Núñez expected to depart, the defending champions are firmly focused on building a new era under Slot and sending a strong message to their domestic and European rivals.
