Manchester City have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old midfield sensation Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg in a deal worth £12.5 million.
Touted as one of the brightest young prospects in European football, Nypan becomes City’s latest youth acquisition, signing a five-year contract through 2030.
Nypan made waves in Norway after debuting in the Eliteserien at just 15, quickly establishing himself as a central figure for Rosenborg.
With 70 senior appearances to his name, along with 14 goals and 11 assists, his maturity and vision on the pitch have already earned comparisons to fellow Norwegian Martin Ødegaard.
Despite interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Aston Villa, City’s long-standing interest and structured development plan won him over.
While a loan for the upcoming season is under consideration, Nypan will initially train with Pep Guardiola’s squad starting July 28.
Speaking after the move, Nypan said it was a “dream” to join a club of City’s stature and to work under Guardiola.
With the success of Norwegian stars like Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb at the Etihad, Nypan’s arrival adds to the growing Nordic influence at the club and underlines City’s focus on long-term midfield reinforcements.
