Jean-Philippe Mateta’s Crystal Palace Stunner Against Arsenal Puts Man United on Alert

2 Min Read

Manchester United have set their sights on Crystal Palace’s prolific striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as they aim to bolster their attacking options. The 6ft 4in Frenchman, thriving in South London during the 2025 season, has caught the attention of United’s recruitment team, who have reportedly initiated contact for a potential summer transfer.

He recently showcased his scoring prowess by netting a brilliant equalizer against Arsenal, capitalizing on a mistake by William Saliba before turning away from Martin Ødegaard and expertly chipping David Raya from range to earn Crystal Palace a 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

Mateta’s physicality, tireless movement, and ability to hold up play make him an ideal fit for United’s creative talisman, Bruno Fernandes, who thrives on finding forwards in dangerous positions.

United’s interest in Mateta comes amid a broader strategy to address their goalscoring woes. With strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing just 15 goals combined across all competitions this season, manager Ruben Amorim is eager to reinforce the frontline.

While Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha are also featured on United’s radar, Mateta has emerged as a top target due to his dynamic presence and versatility.

However, United face stiff competition. Bayern Munich, eyeing a potential Harry Kane replacement, and Juventus are also tracking the Palace star. Crystal Palace, bracing for a possible departure, have begun identifying replacements.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has endorsed United’s pursuit, praising Mateta’s strength, speed, and relentless defending from the front. “He’s a nightmare for defenders,” Merson told Sky Sports, predicting a summer move to Old Trafford.

As United push to steady their attack, Mateta could be the key to unlocking their potential.
